Margery Petersen Cantwell

Margery Cantwell, 87, passed away December 22, 2015 at her home in Logan, Utah. She was born December 15, 1928, the 7th child to Parley and Ella Petersen in Newton, Utah. She was raised in Newton on a dry farm, helping out with housework and outside chores, except for milking cows, which her mother wouldn’t allow her girls to do. She went to school at North Cache where she met Clair Cantwell and they became high school sweethearts. She was a year ahead of Clair in school and she worked at the State Capitol while he finished his senior year. They were married in the Logan Temple June, 24, 1948. While Clair was in the Korean War in 1951, she worked as a telephone operator. They moved to Portland, Oregon in 1955 for Clair to attend dental school. They lived there almost 40 years. The last several years of Clair’s career she worked with him in his dental office.
Marge is the mother of four children: Vickie (Alp) Goldsmith of Beaverton, OR., Marci (Morris) Taylor of Beaverton, OR. , Paula (Bill) Winn of Pocatello, ID and Jim Cantwell (Laura) of Scottsdale, AZ. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was their greatest champion. They all love their “Nani”. Marge and Clair celebrated their 67th anniversary in June. They remained sweethearts throughout those years, setting a wonderful example for their family.
Marge’s interests included sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking, gardening, reading and most of all her family.
Marge was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many church callings. Among them were Primary President and counselor, Relief Society President and counselor and Jr. Sunday School Coordinator.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings. She is survived by her husband, children, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and sister, Dorothy Otteson.
Funeral services will be held in the Logan East Stake Center, 1450 East 1500 North, Logan at 11:00 am on Thursday, Dec. 31st. Viewings will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, on Wednesday, Dec. 30th from 6-8:00 pm. and at the church prior to the services in Logan from 9:30-10:30 am.
The family would like to thank caregivers Sandy and Monty from Primrose, Patti, Cassie, and Casey who were so helpful and kind to her the last year of her life. We would also like to thank all of the many friends and neighbors that have looked out for her.
