Marguerite Madsen Van Liere passed away peacefully on January 16,2009 at Majestic Care and Rehab Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Marguerite was born on April 27, 1922 in Manti, Utah to Howard and Elizabeth Davenport Madsen. She graduated from Manti High School. She earned an associate's degree in Home Economics at Snow College. She married Jacob "Jack" Van Liere on Sept 17, 1952 in Salt Lake City. She was the mother of four children. Marguerite had a variety of civil service jobs spanning 25 years at Ft. Greeley, Alaska, Ft. Douglas, and Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah. After retiring, Jack and Marguerite lived aboard a 32 ft. Westsail for seven years. They met people from all walks of life, had some hair raising experiences, but loved the life. In 1989 they had to give up sailing due to medical reasons and eventually settled in Licking, Missouri. After Jack passed away in 1998, Marguerite moved back to Salt Lake City to be near her sons, their families, and her sisters. She was a member of N.A.R.F.E. and D.U.P. She enjoyed cooking, line dancing, church involvement, and her family.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Jack Van Liere and sisters, Mildred Lindersmith and Naomi Ekberg. She is survived by her sister Bertrude Evans, Logan, Utah, children, Kevin Van Liere, Salt Lake City, Tonya and (Kurt) Rakozy, Dubuque, Iowa, Jacques and (Annette) Van Liere, East Carbon, Utah, and Eric Van Liere, West Jordan, Utah. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Viewing and funeral will be held on January 24th at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, Utah. The Viewing will be from 10:30 a.m. - 11 :45a.m. The Funeral will follow at 12:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest along side her husband in the Logan Cemetery.
