Marie B Chambers

June 10, 1918 — March 11, 2015

Marie Budge Chambers left her home in Logan, Utah, on March 11, 2015, to be reunited with her husband, Dick. She was 96.
Marie was born on June 10, 1918, to Thomas B. and Duella Alvord Budge, the fourth of five children. Her father and his brother, D.C. Budge, started Logan’s first hospital. Marie was especially proud of the recognition given to the Budge Clinic, named after her father and uncles, last year in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the hospital. She graduated from Logan High School and attended Utah State University, where she met her husband, Richard A. Chambers. They were married on January 4, 1939, in the Logan LDS Temple. Except for a few years in California during World War II and some time in Ogden after the war, Marie and Dick made their home in Logan until his death in 2011. She loved Cache Valley and its people. When driving around the valley she could point out a house or farm and relate stories about who lived there and what they did.
Marie loved to cook. Even while living alone after Dick’s death she continued to try new recipes. The greatest compliment Marie could give someone was to say “she was a good cook.” Marie also loved to do needlepoint and to knit and taught a generation of knitters in the Cache 21st Ward young women’s program.
Marie was a football fan, especially of the NFL. The Denver Broncos were her team. She knew almost every coach on every team by sight.
Apart from her family Marie’s greatest love was her home at Bear Lake. She enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the sun rise over the mountains or the storm clouds gather, the wind whip the lake into whitecaps and the lightning flash and listening to the thunder crash. She passed her love of the lake to three generations who followed her. The lake won’t be the same without her.
Marie is survived by her son, Steven (Nancy) of Cottonwood Heights, grandchildren Steven (Cathy), Draper; Brad (Melanie), Logan; Courtney Wilcox (Robert), North Salt Lake; Melinda, South Salt Lake; Jefferson (Holli), Grand Rapids, MI, and Leah Fortuna (Brad), Cottonwood Heights. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren with two more expected in 2015.

There will be a viewing at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah, from 12:30 to 1:30 on Thursday, March 19, 2015, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 at the Logan City Cemetery.
