Marie Monsen Pugsley, 76, passed away May 26, 2024 at her home in Hyde Park after enduring aggressive glioblastoma brain cancer.

Marie grew up in Altamont, Utah. She was the third of nine children. Marie was a caring, friendly, and bright young lady. She acquired many skills and talents because of her determination and love of learning and progress. She was a talented pianist, seamstress, gardener, typist, organizer, cake decorator and cook.

Marie graduated from Altamont High School in 1965 and then moved to Logan to attend Utah State University. While there she met Virgil Rex Pugsley, who was assigned to be her home teacher. They were a perfect match. Virgil and Marie were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple in September, 1967. They are the parents of four daughters, Kristen, Karen, Patrea, and Shanna.

Virgil and Marie purchased their first home in Granger, UT in 1972 and then moved their family to Bennion (Taylorsville), UT in 1978 where they lived for the next 33 years. They loved their time there and made many lifelong friends.  After Virgil’s retirement in 2011 they moved to Cache Valley to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  They settled in Hyde Park, UT where they made new and lasting friendships.

Marie was a happy and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and was always doing something for someone else. She had a special relationship with her grandchildren. She valued her time with each of them.

Marie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving in a variety of callings, starting at age 11 as ward Primary pianist. Other callings included organist, Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society presidencies and various other callings.  She and Virgil served a mission in the Cambodian Branch in Salt Lake City from 1999-2001.  They also served 18-months in the Missouri Independence Mission from 2012-2013 where they enjoyed associations with missionaries and visitors at the Independence Visitors’ Center and the Historic Liberty Jail. She also served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River and Logan Temples. She influenced many lives for good with her testimony of Jesus Christ, faith, love and care.

Marie was a talented conversationalist. She had an ability to connect and show love to new friends as well as her many relatives, friends, church members and neighbors. We will miss her visits and kind support.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Marian, brothers David, Dwight John, and Rowen and sister in-laws Susie Pugsley and Sharon Monsen and brother-in-law Lee McDaniel.

Marie is survived by her husband Virgil,  children Kristen (Phillip) Hale, Karen (Doug) Fullmer, Patrea (Chad) Griffeth, and Shanna (Jeremy) Wiegman, 31 grandchildren and grandchildren in-law whom she loved as her own, and 10 great-grandchildren with three more on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Ann (Paul), Dorine (Gary), Susan Monsen, Rudy (Julia), Judy (Brent), and Jerry (Ranae), and her brothers and sisters in-law, Bruce (Debbie), Linda (Tom), Dave (Ann), Pam (Ron), Wayne (Sally), and Kenneth (Leisa).

We wish to thank Intermountain Hospice for their kindness and care.
