Marilyn Peterson Ellis, daughter of Rulon and Naomi Peterson, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2013 of natural causes.
She was born in Ogden, Utah on January 11, 1931 and was raised in Roy on the family ranch. Her parents instilled in her at an early age the importance of family and the value of hard work. Throughout her school years and her life, she loved learning.
Marilyn graduated from Weber High School and then received an associate’s degree from Weber College. She then attended Brigham Young University. In 1950 she met her sweetheart LeGrande Clark Ellis. They dated and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 18, 1952. After their marriage, Marilyn and LeGrande attended Utah State University and Marilyn graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English.
Family has always been what matters most to Marilyn. She was fortunate to be able to stay at home and raise her family. She raised seven children and helped raise many of her grandchildren. Her heart and home has always been open to others who have been blessed to stay there.
Marilyn has faithfully served her friends and neighbors and had a great love for the relief society and its sisters. She has served as president of both Relief Society and Primary. She also taught Relief Society for more than 20 years.
Marilyn was an avid reader who greatly enjoyed a good book. She was widely known as a wonderful cook and enjoyed delighting others with her good food, Christmas pastries and hand-dipped chocolates.
In passing she was reunited with her husband, LeGrande, of 56 years, her son Brent, grandson Ethan, brothers Ronald and Darrell and her parents Rulon and Naomi.
She is survived by children: LuAnn (Tom) Willmore, Janet Maw, L. Clark (Shannon) Ellis, Julie (Lance) Haycock, Scott (Karen) Ellis, Jason (Jessica) Ellis, daughter-in law Robin Ellis, 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, who all loved her dearly. She is also survived by her sister Janice (Earl) Child and brothers Lowell (Kathleen) Peterson and Wayne (Joan) Peterson.
Her testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, burned brightly. As a mother, she left a legacy of faith in her children and grandchildren. Her love and example will be greatly missed.
