Marilyn, the daughter of David Roy Geddes and Thora Lucretia Hatch, was born at the home of her grandparents, Lorenzo Wilford Hatch and Adelia Lucretia Owens, in Franklin, Idaho. The Geddes family lived in Banida, Idaho, until Marilyn was approximately 5 years old. At that time the family moved to Cove, Utah, where her father farmed several hundred acres, raised chickens and sold eggs as well as had a small dairy farm.
Marilyn was very talented and was taught and was given dance lessons. As a young girl she played the piano and performed in varies programs. She was a great pianist, organist, and music director.
Marilyn attended elementary school in Franklin, Idaho, High School in North Cache, Utah in Richmond, Utah, three years of college at BYU in Provo, Utah, and her final year of college (after she married Thomas B. Kerr in June 1951) at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. She transferred her Idaho credits to BYU and graduated from BYU in 1952. She taught first grade at Potlatch, Idaho, in 1952 and 53 while Tom finished and graduated from his engineering classes at Moscow.
Tom entered the Air Force in September 1953 and their first son, Blaine, was born in Dayton, Ohio, January 4th, 1954. Bryan was born at Park Air Force Base, west of Livermore, California On January 1st, 1956, and Kevin was born there on 20th August 1957. Nancy, our youngest was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 22th February 1959.
The family moved to District Heights, Maryland in late summer of 1961, where the children grew up finished their elementary education and high school and moved on to their occupations.
Marilyn and Tom stayed in District Heights until the spring of 1986 when they moved back to Cache Valley to spend the rest of their lives.
Every place we have lived, Marilyn has been deeply involved in musical related activities as well as other major leadership roles in young women and/or adult women activities. The only exception to this has been the last few years. When her health was compromised. And in turn had a major effect on her music, hearing, memory, and overall health in general.
She has now gone home and we know she has been reunited with our son, Kevin Kerr, who preceded her as well as other family members and friends. We will miss her very much and know that soon I will reunited with my sweetheart. She is survived by her husband, Tom Kerr and children, Blaine, Bryan and Nancy.
