Marilyn Sorensen

September 21, 1936 — October 15, 2024

Logan, Utah

Marilyn Olson Sorensen, 88, of Logan, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024. She was born on September 21, 1936, in Millville, Utah, to Newel Charles Olson and Florence Christine Anderson.

Marilyn graduated from South Cache High School and married her beloved Clyde Melvin Sorensen in the Logan Utah Temple on May 28, 1954. The couple faced profound heartache early in their marriage with the loss of their firstborn, Lynn, who bravely battled leukemia at just six years old.

The Sorensen’s made their home in Millville, where Marilyn worked in the family business mowing lawns at the Millville Cemetery. Their deep commitment to family was evident, as they lived just a block away from her parents and frequently visited Clyde’s family in College Ward. In 1974, they relocated to Young Ward, where they continued to nurture their family ties.

Marilyn’s passion for quilting and crocheting created cherished memories for her family; every child and grandchild has at least one of her lovingly made quilts. She also enjoyed decorating t-shirts with Aftex paints, including a memorable design for the “root beer drinking team.” Countless hours were spent at her sewing machine, crafting clothes for her children.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marilyn was active in various organizations, including Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her enjoyment of camping and fishing trips, especially at Tony’s Grove, which became a beloved family tradition. Game nights filled with laughter were a staple in her home, with favorites including Pinochle, Spades, Crazy Eights, and Monopoly. She brought joy to family gatherings, reading Christmas stories that led to delightful chaos as gifts were passed among her grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Newel Charles Olson and Florence Christine Anderson; her husband, Clyde Melvin Sorensen; her son, Lynn Sorensen; and her great-granddaughters, Kaidence Marie Hall and Olivia Wright.

She is survived by her children: LeAnn S. (Ed) Lloyde, Lex N. (Joann) Sorensen, Nyle (Valerie) Sorensen, Kevin (Kristie) Sorensen, Kalynne (Dan) Bookless, and Kendall Clyde Sorensen. Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love, represented by her 22 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Marilyn will be dearly missed, but her spirit and the love she shared will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Monday October 21 at the Young Ward church, located at 2394 W. 2200 S., Wellsville, Utah, at 11:30 AM, with a viewing from 10-11 AM prior to the service. An additional evening viewing will take place on Sunday October 20 from 6-8 PM at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan.
