Our beautiful wife, mother, sister and friend, Marjorie Belle Turner Perry, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with illness and pain on June 23, 2024.
Marjorie was born May 17, 1952, at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho to Betty Lee Tarble and George McMillian Turner. She was the oldest of two children.
As a young child, Marjorie moved with her family to Marshall, Illinois where she attended elementary through high school. She graduated from Marshall High School in May of 1970. After high school, she attended Indiana State University. In 1974, at her mom's encouragement, she transferred to Utah State University majoring in Art History. There, she made lifelong friendships and met her sweetheart, Karl Perry.
Karl and Marjorie were married in the Logan, Utah temple on September 14, 1976. They had 4 children Amanda, Kira (Jason), Trevor (Joshua), and Brynna. They lived in Logan, Utah, Des Moines, Iowa, Salt Lake City, Utah, Brigham City, Utah, and then moved to Logan, Utah where they have lived for the last 33 years.
Marjorie was an intelligent, artistic, and kind woman. She loved to learn about the world around her from physics to diverse cultures. Her excitement in learning about cultures of the world was furthered as she traveled to locations such as Italy, Germany, France, Spain, and Belize. She was passionate about genealogy and spent countless hours researching different family lines.
A highlight of Marjorie’s life was her attendance and participation in the Maya meetings at the University of Texas each March. There she bumped shoulders with scholars and world-renowned archeologists. She held her own in studying ancient Mayan art, language, culture, and hieroglyphs and impressed many with her knowledge and passion for Mayan culture.
She also had a love for animals, particularly cats. Rarely in her life was she without a feline companion and she often had multiple at a time. She had a giving heart and would even take in cats that had been abandoned.
Marjorie always saw beauty in the world around her. She loved her roses and many other flowers she grew. She often made beautiful arrangements for all to enjoy. She also used her artistic talents to create art using mediums including photography, drawing, beading, and clay.
Throughout her life and wherever she would go, Marjorie made friends. Her sense of humor and welcoming nature made strangers feel at home in her presence.
Marjorie was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved raising and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ. She exemplified his love as she served in church callings in Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society.
Marjorie is survived by her husband Karl, daughter Amanda, Kira (Jason), Trevor (Joshua), and Brynna and her two grandchildren Hayden and Mabel. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Turner.
She is preceded in death by her mother Betty Lee Turner and father George McMillan Turner.
