Martha Douglas Mauchley

October 29, 1941 — April 27, 2010

NIBLEY, UTAH - Martha Douglas Mauchley passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2010. Martha was born on October 29, 1941 to Daniel Walters and Eunice Murray Douglas. The family lived in Wellsville, Howell and then Logan. Martha graduated from Logan High School, attended classes at Utah State University and completed training to become a beautician; working at that career for many years. She worked at Herff Jones until her retirement in 2008.
Martha married Clair Mauchley in 1971. Together Martha and Clair lived in Nibley and enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and attending social events. Clair passed away unexpectedly in 1999.
Martha is described by her family as a collector. She collected a wide circle of friends. Walking down a street, shopping or attending any community event took twice as long as Martha took the time to stop and visit with friends. Martha was always working on some handmade item, crocheting and knitting from an early age. She learned to weave and as her skill in fiber arts progressed she became an active member of the local weaver's guild. She loved traveling with the group, making new friends and visiting yarn shops along the way. She could take raw wools and other fibers, hand dye them, spin them into yarns and weave or knit beautiful things. Many of the items she gave away to friends and family.
Martha enjoyed the American West Festival and she and Clair would transport an antique loom to the t festival where she would demonstrate weaving rugs. She also demonstrated weaving for the Jensen Historical Farm. One of Martha's joys was collecting and using looms, spinning wheels, beautiful yarns and weaving materials and just about any item associated with weaving.
Martha now joins her father Dan, infant son Chet, husband Clair and mother Eunice who passed away in January. The death of her baby left a large space in her heart and life. Over the years she filled that space with the children of friends and family. She was really good with children and took great pride in the accomplishments of her nieces and nephews.
Martha also leaves behind her sisters and brothers-in-law Linda D. and Robert White, Dorothy Douglas and Jim Ayers, Susan D. and Mark Silver; nieces and nephews Jill White, Joseph Ayers, Sam and Lian Silver and grandnieces Kellee and Paige Harwood.
