Marva Pitcher

September 24, 1932 — March 1, 2015

Surrounded by her loving family, Marva Mae Godfrey Pitcher (82) passed away March 1, 2015 at her home in Smithfield, UT from complications related to Lewy Body Dementia.

Marva was born Sept 24, 1932 to Marven Ezekiel and Maggie May (Merrill) Godfrey in Trenton, Utah. She was sealed to her high school sweetheart, Orvid M Pitcher, in the Logan LDS temple on August 23, 1950. He has been her dearest friend and “go-to guy” ever since as there was nothing “Orv” couldn’t do.

Marva and Orvid’s motto: “There is always room for one more” was exemplified as they joyfully welcomed each of their 5 children (Michael, Alyce, Christy, Sherida, and Alayna) into their family. Later they were thrilled to adopt Kory and Kendi from Korea. Clara Sonia Galeano (from Paraguay) eventually completed their home as an honorary family member.

Professionally, Marva and Orvid worked side-by-side in their photography business. He took the photographs then she spent countless hours printing and hand-coloring them for the customers. Years later, Marva went to school and became an RN. She spent the majority of her career caring for residents at the Sunshine Terrace. Her compassion and kindness touched the lives of everyone with whom she associated.

Marva will be deeply missed by her family: her devoted husband, Orvid, and all of her children: Michael O. (Nancy) Pitcher, Alyce Bosch, Christy (James) Benedict, Sherida Pitcher, Alayna (Mark) Jones, Kory B. (Jennifer) Pitcher, and Kendi Pitcher (fiancé Jeff Lang); her 14 grandchildren: Katie (Jason) Pletcher, Justin (Chelise) Pitcher,
Alexis (Benjamin) Miller, Zachary (Katie) Bosch, Tanner Bosch, Kelsey (Rey) Velazquez, Alexandra and Estefan “Ossie” Cespedes, Jace, Kiersten, and Kylie Jones, Graysen, Naomi, and Gordon Pitcher; and her 5 (and counting) great grandchildren: Adalaye Pletcher, Xavier and Edison Miller, Sydney Bosch, and Gabriel Velazquez. Additionally, her sister, Linda G. Walker and brother-in-law, E. Budd Pitcher along with numerous nephews and nieces mourn her loss.

Marva was welcomed into Paradise by those that passed before her: parents, Marven and Maggie; sister, W. June Hansen; niece, Mary Hansen; son-in-law, Paul V. Bosch; grandson, Addison Jones, and numerous relatives, in-laws, and friends.

The family will greet well-wishers at the Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 E Center St, Logan) Friday (Mar. 6) from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday, (Mar. 7) at 12:00 p.m. in the Smithfield North Stake Center (155 W400 N, Smithfield.). The family will also greet visitors prior to the service from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Intermountain Homecare and Hospice team and to Dr. Michael J. Stones as they have given such kind and amazing care to help us in this journey.
