Marvin Larry Ashliman

January 22, 1939 — November 4, 2005

Marvin Larry Ashliman passed away at the age of 66 in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City surrounded by his family on Friday, November 4th 2005 due to complications from a stroke. He was born in Logan, Utah on January 22, 1939 to Marvin Leo and Lola Ranzenberger Ashliman.
Larry was raised in Providence attended Cache Valley schools. He graduated in 1956 from South Cache High School and attended Utah State University. He served in the Utah National Guard from 1957 to 1965.
On July 23, 1959 Larry married Laretta (Rita) Pauline Johnson in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they lived in Providence and had five children: Dar, Lori Ann, Gordon, Courtney and Jamie. They were later divorced.
Larry then married Annette Pinder Erickson on June 8th 1984 in the Logan LDS Temple. Larry played an important fatherly role in the lives of Annette’s five children Traci, Teri, Tami, Tyler, and Trevor from a previous marriage.
As a livelong and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Larry served in many callings including: Scout Leader, Executive Finance Secretary, 2nd Councilor in the Bishopric, Sunday School President, and Service and Welfare leader.
Larry served his community in many capacities as well. He co-founded the Cache County Search and Rescue (Jeep Patrol) and served as Commander. He also served as Providence Water Master and on the Planning and Zoning Committee.
Larry spent 47 years in the construction business. He designed and built numerous homes in Northern Utah and Southeast Idaho and had a reputation for kindness and quality. He and a partner owned A&H Insulation in the early 70’s. During the course of his career Larry has worked for Anderson Lumber, Fullmer Building Supply, Cantwell Lumber (Progressive Homes), Larry Ashliman Construction, and Ellsworth-Paulsen Construction. He served as Cache Valley Home Builders Association President in 1993 and has won numerous awards in the Parade of Homes over the years.
Larry loved the outdoors and passed that love to all of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, backpacking, and camping with his family. He loved working in his garden and created beautiful landscaping such as rock gardens, water falls and fish ponds.
He is survived by his wife Annette, his children, Dar (Laura) Ashliman, Lori Ann (Bobby) Anderson, Gordon (Jana) Ashliman, Courtney (Susie) Ashliman, and Jamie (Randy) Anderson and Annette’s children Traci Hillyard, Teri Erickson, Tami (Randy) Andersen, Tyler (Brooke) Erickson, and Trevor (Becky) Erickson. He will be missed by 20 grandchildren, his sister and brothers, Joan Blaylock, Ron (Karen) Ashliman, Deloy Ashliman, and his mother Lola Ashliman. He was preceded in death by his father Marvin L. Ashliman.
Larry has left a legacy of hard work, commitment to quality, kindness, love and service to others. We will love you always Dad and try to remember everything you taught us. You will never be far from our hearts and never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the Mendon 1st Ward Chapel, 20 North 100 West in Mendon, with Bishop Hal Mills conducting. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, and prior to services at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:45 AM.
