Mary Ann Hansen Poppleton

August 22, 1948 — March 22, 2014

HYRUM, UTAH: After almost a year of battling cancer, Mary Ann Hansen Poppleton passed away at her home in the early morning hours on Saturday, March 22, 2014. She was 65. Mary Ann was born in Logan, Utah August 22, 1948 to Donald and Mary Virginia Traveller Hansen, the third child of six children. She married her eternal sweetheart, Alan Craig Poppleton on August 27, 1966. Together they had six children. She grew up on dairy farm in Smithfield where she learned at a young age the value of hard work. She learned many domestic trades from her mother such as cooking, sewing and how to do hair. As a child she loved playing sports, attending 4-H and playing with her friends and cousins.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a burning testimony of the gospel. She loved serving in the church and she was passionate in whatever calling she served in. She has served in many capacities. Most recently she served as the Relief Society President and loved all the sisters in the Hyrum First ward. She also loved her country and her community. This was demonstrated by her service as chairman of the Star-Spangle 4th of July Celebration in Hyrum and by being involved in Dairy Princess Pageantry.
Mary Ann took the talent she learned from her mother and made it her career. She attended and graduated from Hollywood Beauty College and began a career spanning 45 years.
Throughout her career as a beautician, she developed many friends as co-worker and clients. She valued her many friends over the years. Her career life was a life of service to make her friends, family and clients more beautiful inside and out.
She found great satisfaction in life by playing games, camping, family parties, snowmobiling, traveling, 4-wheeling, cooking and celebrating holidays. She was the ultimate hostess and enjoyed entertaining for family, friends and neighbors. No one was exempt from her sense of humor and practical jokes. Her favorite holiday was Christmas mainly because Mary Ann led a Christ centered life. Mary Ann’s optimism and joy for life was contagious. She was a lot of fun!
Her most valued calling was wife, mother and grandmother. Her entire family was the blessing she valued the most in life. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren and was a loving mother to all. Everyone she encountered loved Mary Ann because she first loved them.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband: Craig; children: Chris (Atlanta, GA), Ryan & Margaret (Hyrum), Chad & Amy (Hyrum), Mackenzie (Hyrum), Dan & Ashleigh Porter (Queen Creek, AZ); 11 grand children; father & step mother: Donald & Virginia Hansen; Siblings: Sheryl & Merlin Humpherys, Blaine & Laura Hansen, Gary & Kathy Hansen. She was preceded in death by a son, David, her mother Mary, brothers, Clair & Eugene.
A special thank you to the nurses, physicians and aides that served our mother.
