It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mary E. Carigan. She passed away peacefully Thursday March 31st just short of her 95th birthday. We rejoice in the extraordinary life she was privileged to live. Everyone who knew her, loved her and all feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being.
Mary E. was born April 12, 1921 in Big Stone Gap, VA. She grew up in Loyall, KY where she was a member of the Loyall Methodist Church. She attended elementary and high school in Loyall where she was a member of the debate team, the choir, and the band. Mary E. attended Union College in the Appalachian Mountains of KY where she met her husband, the late Bill Carigan who was an Air Force officer. Mary E. received her masters of education at Utah State University and joined the department of education. Mary E. was named Professor of the Year for the college of education in 1985.
Mary E. was a loving sister of Edna Scott of Woodbridge, VA and of the late Lee Ella Ramsey of Chamblee, GA and of the late Fitzhugh Hill of TN.
Mary E. has been a long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church in Logan, UT, the auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Chapter U of the PEO Sisterhood.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Logan on Thursday April 7th at 11:00 AM followed by a social gathering. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
