Matthew James Burnett, 32, passed away Jan. 25, 2009, after struggling with cancer for 2 years.
Matthew was born in Logan, Utah on Aug. 25, 1976 to Floyd J.and Carole W. Burnett. He married Christine Marie Browning, Aug. 21, 1999, in the Bountiful Utah Temple. They are the parents of four children.
Matthew grew up in Providence, UT, Fairbanks, AK, and Reno, NV. He was an Eagle Scout and loved running. He served a Spanish-speaking mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tampa, Florida, 1995-1997. He received a Bachelors degree from BYU and attended medical school at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, where he was awarded a diploma for his hard work and experience despite being unable to finish his third and fourth year due to his illness.
Matthew was a scout master and prior to med school, also worked as an EMT, as well as a patient care technician in nursing horne, hospital and home settings, where he was recognized for his outstanding service to others.
He is survived by his parents, Floyd and Carole Burnett of Providence, UT, siblings Alan (Mindy) Burnett of Reno, NY, Roger (Aimee) Burnett of Littleton, CO, Karen (Tim) Turner of Herriman, UT, Ken (Cindy) Burnett of Phoenix, AZ, and Nathan (Emily) Burnett of Preston, ID., wife, Christine of Providence, UT and children, Benjamin, Joshua, Anna and Maria Burnett.
Matthew was full of faith, hard-working, optimistic about life, and fearless of death. He will be loved and remembered for his example of a life well-lived.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan 29, at the Fruitland Acres Ward Building, 464 N 300 E, Providence. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, and 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fruitland Acres Ward prior to services. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Eden around 1:30 pm on Thursday. Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net
