LOGAN, UTAH: Maurine Pickett Jones was born October 11, 1923 in Providence, Utah to Ross Reading Pickett and Mae Alder Pickett. Maurine attended school in Providence and graduated from South Cache High School
Maurine married Venal Jones on January 27, 1946 after his service in World War II. Maurine was always proud of Venal's service to his country. She was the mother of two children; Jeanne Kay Jones Cannon and Jerry Venal Jones. She often said her greatest happiness began when she became a wife and then a mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has been a member of the Logan Seventh Ward for over 60 years. In that ward she served in all auxiliaries and enjoyed teaching the youth and adults in Sunday school.
Maurine has a network of friends and family who have been loyal to her and her to them. She enjoyed the many activities and built memories over the years with so many of them.
In 1944 she began her employment at the Logan First National Bank. She retired in 1986 as Bank Assistant Vice President and Loan Officer. She always felt grateful that her efforts at the bank were providing a significant service to her friends and to the community in general. While working at the bank she had the opportunity to serve as President of the Cache Valley Bankers Association.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Women (BPW) where she served as an officer. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ross and Mae Pickett; her brother, Farrell Pickett and her sisters Julia Campbell and Gwen Bell. She is survived by her husband, Venal, daughter Jeanne Cannon (Joseph, Blackfoot) and son Jerry V. Jones (Pat, Young Ward). She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brent R. Cannon, Michael Cannon, Curtis Cannon, Scott Cannon, Jennifer Jones, Jason R. Jones, Jocelyn Murdock, Jana Greene and fifteen great grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 12:00 pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary chapel. There will be a viewing Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the mortuary and on Tuesday from 10:30 - 11:30 am.
