Maxine Blotter

April 1, 1928 — April 11, 2017

Maxine Howells Blotter, age 89, died April 5 at Christ Hospital surrounded by her friends. Born April 1, 1928 in Paradise Utah to Joseph and Zelda Howells. She was raised on a dairy farm where she learned to work hard and enjoy the beauties of this world. She fell in love with a smart funny younger man, Ronald Dale Blotter from Logan Utah while she attended Utah State University. They were married December 15, 1949 in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City Utah after getting the parental signature of Ron’s mother. They settled in Cincinnati in 1958 and lived in Indian Hill for 52 years. She graduated from Utah State with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Econ for over 30 years, mostly in the Cincinnati public school system. She loved to teach cooking and sewing both in and out of school. She could whip up an amazing meal from the barest of ingredients and everyone had a favorite she cooked. She loved to teach and even after her retirement volunteered in reading programs to help others to read. Countless are the numbers she taught both in and out of a class room. She was a teacher in the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints in many capacities including her current class of 8 and 9 year olds.

She loved to be active from riding her horse as a young woman on the farm to later learning to swim and play tennis. Both she loved well into her 80’s playing tennis often on several teams a week. Sad was the day she had to put away her racket. She loved her garden, feeding the birds and working in the yard and even mowed her lawn as usual the day before her passing.

She is survived by her children, R. Dale Blotter (Cyndi) of San Antonio Texas, Karen Preul (Mark) of Scottsdale Arizona, Robert Blotter (Tami) of Marquette Michigan, Michael Blotter (Shauna) of Bountiful Utah. She boasts of 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She also counts among her extended family the many who she opened her home for a meal, or a place to stay for a night or “as long as you need.” She would always say I needed a friend and they did too so it worked out perfectly.

Funeral Services was held Monday April 10th at the LDS Chapel at 5505 Bosworth Place in Cincinnati Ohio. Maxine will be buried in Logan Utah next to her eternal companion Ron, May 5 at the Logan City Cemetery at 3pm. A viewing will be at Allen-Hall Mortuary prior starting at 1:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate to Utah State University, LDS Humanitarian Aid Fund, or the Heritage Foundation in her honor.
