Logan: Max W. Chambers, 89, passed away peacefully on
October 9,2005 in Logan, Utah. Max was born September
27, 1916 in Garland, Utah, the third son of Dr. John
W. Chambers, Jr. and Mabel Goddard Chambers. He
attended Garland schools and was graduated from Bear
River High School. He attended Brigham Young
University where he met his sweetheart, Evelyn Olsen
of Spanish Fork.. Max and Evelyn were married on June
20,1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. Max's studies were
interrupted as he served his country in World War II
for 5 years. He attained the rank of captain in the
army. At the war's conclusion, he finished his degree
at BYU and entered the Sears Roebuck management
training program. He began his business career at
Sears in Provo. After serving as a department manager,
and as the merchandise manager of the Provo store, he
was appointed manager of the Logan Sears store in
1963. Upon retiring from Sears he and Evelyn have
enjoyed pursuing many interests and activities. First
and foremost of these was their love and involvement
with their family. Max and Evelyn are the parents of
two sons, M. Brent (wife Carolyn) and Gary A (wife
Ruth Ann). They also have 12 grandchildren and 26
great grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing, fishing,
traveling, attending sporting events, and gardening.
His yard on 1600 East was a showplace of beauty for
all who passed by. He was an active member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held
the office of high priest. Max's warm welcome, smile,
and handshake will be missed by the members of his
ward where his latest assignment was that of sacrament
meeting greeter, a calling he truly enjoyed. In the
last few years he was actively collecting and
compiling his family histories. He published several
booklets for members of his family that chronicle his
life and the lives of his parents and forefathers. He
also had just completed a wonderful book of happy and
humorous memories from his and Evelyn's lives.
Max is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn of
Logan, his sons, Brent of Provo and Gary of North
Logan and his 12 grandchildren and 26 great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents
and his brothers, Frank G. Chambers and Donald G.
