While in high school, she met her sweetheart George W. Thigpen Jr. They were later married during the next year of high school on August 20, 1955. She continued to graduation as a young wife. They have been married 56 years as of August 20th.They wasted no time starting their own little family. Together they had six beautiful children. Kenneth Thigpen (Shellee), Kevin Thigpen ( Peggy), Kimberly Thigpen – deceased, Kelly Thigpen ( Penny), Kimball Thigpen ( Liz), and Krista Thigpen. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister, daughter Kimberly and her grandson Kristopher. Mecy had a great love and passion for cooking and gardening. She would always take pride in what she did. She had a very strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, where she served in many callings for the church. She did it all with her amazing smile.
Back in North Carolina Mecy worked a few years at a telephone company, then she and George decided it was time for change and made a move to Utah to be with family. When things got settled, she worked as a C.N.A at Sunshine Terrace, then later went to USU to work as a food coordinator for many years. She retired from that to be home and enjoy her family and her hobbies.
