LOGAN, UTAH - Melba Munk Hansen, (96), of Logan Utah, passed away of natural causes, August 9, 2010 following a short stay at Sunshine Terrace. She was born May 10, 1914 in Logan , the first of seven children born to Lionel Lehi and Grenna Saphronia Johnson Munk. She married Orland J. Hansen on October 16, 1934 in the Logan LDS Temple .

She was raised with her brothers and sisters on her father’s farm in Benson, attended elementary school there, and graduated from North Cache High in 1932. While in school she participated in several school plays, the Prep Club, and Seminary. Melba was always a hard worker. As a youngster she helped with the raising of her younger siblings, and on the farm hoeing and thinning beets, and picking various fruits and vegetables. Melba lived her life in Logan where she devoted her time to the raising of her daughters, and to the supporting her husband and their business, North State Oil.

Melba loved flowers; she enjoyed working in her yard, and taking care of her plants. For years her yard was a showplace and a source of great pride for her. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their motor home, spending time with grand children, and fishing and camping at their favorite spot, Tony Grove. Melba enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Her many quilts are enjoyed by children, grandchildren and various charities. When not busy with family, Melba served in various callings for her church, and for several charities.

Melba is survived by her eldest daughter, Carole O. Williams, (David) Ivins, Utah, brother Wendell Munk, Benson, Utah, sister Bonnie Woolf Paradise, Utah, sister Clodean Riches Smithfield, Utah, son-in-law Melvin DeSpain, husband of Janice DeSpain (deceased), seven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. Melba’s family loved her, and she will be missed.

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon at the Logan City Cemetery, 1000 North 1200 East in Logan. Family and friends may pay their respects Saturday from 11-11:45 AM at the Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street , Logan , Utah. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .

Melba will be laid to rest along side her husband Orlie, and younger daughter Janice, in family graveside services at the Logan Cemetery .
