Melva Ravsten Cottle

May 26, 1933 — January 13, 2020

Melva Ravsten Cottle passed away on January 13, 2020 in Logan, Utah. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Melva was born on May 26, 1933 to Bennie J. and Eunice Petersen Ravsten. She was born in Logan and raised in Clarkston, Utah. You could find her attending dances, playing the piano, singing and reading books.

She was sealed in the Logan, LDS Temple to Wallace (Wally) A. Cottle on February 26, 1951. They were married for 64 years before the passing of Wally on October 20, 2015.

Melva and Wally raised seven children together. They moved around due to Wally’s job leveling land, they lived in Trenton for a number of years and then eventually settled in Clarkston. Several of the jobs she had throughout her life included working at Smithfield Implement, the Clarkston Post Office and Thiokol, Corp. However, she spent most of her life in her home raising her children, which she considered her greatest accomplishment. She loved singing. She was part of a trio that performed throughout Northern Utah and Southern Idaho. She was an accomplished pianist. She loved accompanying others and taught many children how to play the piano (including many of her grandchildren). She could always be found reading a good book and was often a member of a book club. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life she held many callings, including serving several years as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. She will always be remembered as a devoted and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Melva was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Cottle; her parents, Bennie and Eunice Ravsten; sister Yvonne (Ravsten) Ashby; and sons, Stanley Wallace Cottle and Allen Ravsten Cottle. She is survived by her sister Una Jean (Ravsten) Cottle and brother Milton Ole Ravsten. She is also survived by her children Mike, Eugene (Yumi), Duane (Dena), Annette, and Jay (Rhonda); 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 in the Clarkston LDS chapel, 25 East 100 South. A viewing will be held on Saturday prior to the funeral service at the Clarkston church from 10-11:45 AM. Interment will be at the Trenton Cemetery.
