Merl Neal Manteufel, 75, of Lewiston, Utah, died October 7th 2016 at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah.
Merl was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin September 17, 1941 to Harry and Margaret (Speerbrecher) Manteufel.
He was a member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and served many years in the National Guard. Merl enjoyed 4-wheeler riding and hiking in the mountains and had a special love for animals, books, and dreamed about making his own boat.
Merl married Julia A Meier in 1982 and became an instant step-father to three children. Merl worked at Presto Products in Lewiston then later moved to Elko, Nevada to drive haul trucks for the gold mines. Later Merl and Julia moved to Cascade, Idaho to open two restaurants. They returned to Lewiston five years ago to retire. He loved meeting new people and made friends with everyone that came into the restaurants. He was always there for all who needed a hug, listening ear, and a kiss on the top of the head!
He is survived by his wife Julia Manteufel, and three children Rick (Suzy) Owen, Deanna (Jose) Olano, Jackie (Tom) Price. Seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Merl’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Sunshine Terrace and all of the ward members in Lewiston for their love and support.
