Merlin A. Saunders passed away peacefully in his home on Monday July 7th 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Merlin was born in Benson Utah on December 15th 1929. He was the 12th of 14 children born to Willard and Kirstiana Saunders. Merlin married his loving wife Venna Walker in the Logan Temple on September 12th 1951. They were blessed with 5 children Sharon (Rodney) Larsen, Kurtis (Alice) Saunders, Michael (Sherril) Saunders, Paul (Lorene) Saunders, and Barbara. Merlin’s siblings are Donna, Willard, Ruth, Donald, Carroll, LeRoy, Lillie, Gilbert, Dorothy, Althea, Mary, Wendell and Earl. Merlin and Venna have 14 Grandchildren and 39 Great-Grandchildren. Merlin is preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, 5 brothers, 1 son (Michael), 1 daughter (Barbara), 1 daughter in-law (Sharlene) and 2 Great-Grandchildren (Harrison and Braxton).
Merlin worked for the City of Logan in the Street Department until retiring in 1987. He loved to fish, hunt deer, play cards, puzzles, gardening and camping.
Merlin was a great man who loved his wife and children very much. He was a wonderful Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. Merlin will be missed daily. We will forever keep in our hearts those silly expressions and the songs he would sing.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11:00am in the Logan City Cemetery with Bishop Wayne Maughan Conducting. Friends and family may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary on Friday morning from 9:00am till 10:30am.
