Merlin D. Yeates 83 died August 4th 2006 at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah.
Born May 2nd 1923 in Hyrum, Utah. To Thomas Leo Yeates & Melba Harriet Shaw.
He married Lenore Quibell she preceded him in death. Merlin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was educated in Cache County schools. He joined the army when he was only 17 years old and served in World War II from May 1941 until July 1945. He was a courageous soldier.
He fought in several major campaigns including North Africa, Normandy & Sicily. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action.
He retired from Kennecott Copper after 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shot many trophy deer and elk.
He lived most of his adult life in Magna, Utah and Grants Pass, Oregon. The last eight years he has lived at Beehive Gardens in Salt Lake City.
We want to thank all of the staff at Beehive Gardens, the V.A. Hospital and Sunshine Terrace for their outstanding care. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother and father, brothers: Keith Yeates and Floyde Yeates and sister: Helen Christofferson. He is survived by brothers: Troy Yeates of Magna and Fred Smith of Logan, sisters: Barbra Johnson of Grantsville and Ruth Godfrey of River Heights. Merlin has many nieces and nephews .
Graveside services for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 12 PM in the Millville Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM prior to services. Condolences may be sent to the family at
