Merrell Austin Nelson, age 94, of Juniper, Idaho (and Logan, Utah) left this world, August 10th, 2018. Merrell was born to George & Lela Nelson in Logan, Utah March 14, 1924. He graduated from Logan High School and was proud to have served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. On July 25, 1945, he married Geraldine Tenney in the Logan LDS Temple. In 1946 he was called to serve a mission in the Hawaiian Islands for two years. Geraldine had their first child at home but was able to join him for his last month in the islands. Together, they raised six children, switching between Logan for school and Juniper to work the farm during the summer.
Merrell served in various church callings throughout his life. He served with his loving wife as senior missionaries on seven missions in the following locations: New Zealand, Alaska, Ghana (West Africa), Singapore/India, Salt Lake Temple Square, Kenya/Uganda and the Philippines. He loved being a missionary and had an unshakeable testimony of the Book of Mormon.
He was preceded in death by his sweetheart of 60+ years as well as his Parents and siblings, along with four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He is survived by his 6 children, Jeanne Crippen (Michael), Alan (Irma), Bill (Josefina), Kathleen Chee (Ben), Sharon Ashby (James), and Jim (Blanca); 22 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday August 18th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Logan First Ward Chapel (89 S. 200 W., Logan). Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 E. Center St., Logan) on Friday, August 17th from 6 - 8 pm. and Saturday from 9 - 10:30 prior to the funeral. Interment will be at Logan City Cemetery.
