Michael Bud Markey

February 22, 1940 — December 27, 2024

North Logan, Utah

After a wonderful Christmas celebrated with family, Mike Markey passed away peacefully in Logan Utah at the age of 84.

Michael Bud Markey was born on February 22, 1940, in Vernal, Uinta County Utah to Patrick Bud Markey and Freda Larsen. He spent his early years in La Jolla, California moving later to Gusher Utah. He graduated from Union High School in Roosevelt Utah. He attended Utah State and Weber State University where he graduated with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering. After graduation, he joined the Army and served two years in Vietnam.

Mike worked at Logan Manufacturing and Thiokol, where he later retired. Not taking well to retirement, he opened 5 Buck Pizza, and later worked for RR Donnely as a press operator. He married Glenna Buist on April 9, 1966, in Mendon Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four children, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He has family members and friends who will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Maple Springs skilled Nursing and Atlas Home Health for their special care.

Mike loved the outdoors. In his younger years he loved to hunt and fish with his family. His hobbies were welding, fishing, camping, and wood cutting in the mountains to heat the family home in the winter. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching baseball games on the Mendon square with a hamburger in his hands or watching his favorite basketball team, The Jazz, while drinking a diet #9 from Chugs. The Tetons and Yellowstone were his favorite places to vacation, and they tried to visit at least once a year. He loved being with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed their visits so much. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of prayer. He faithfully served many callings. His favorite calling was in the Nursery.

Mike was kind and generous and had an infectious laugh. He had nine lives and lived each one like a fighter. One of the reasons he fought so hard at the end, was because he didn’t want to leave his sweetheart of nearly 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna Markey. Children: Gina (Dale) Leishman, Kenneth Markey, Ryan Markey, and Steven (Melissa) Markey.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Patrick and Freda Markey. His sister, Deb (Ron) Basham, and brother, James (Karen) Markey.

Funeral services will be held at the Mendon Stake Center on Saturday, Jan 4, 2025, at Noon with a viewing from 10:00 - 11:30 am. Internment will take place in the Mendon Cemetery.
