Michael John Thompson
Sunday, August 18, 2024
Our beloved son, brother, friend, and father of two young children passed away Sunday August 18, 2024, at the age of 32 in Wellsville, Utah.
Mike was born June 20, 1992, in Logan, Utah to Mark B. and Gina Thompson, the youngest of two children. At the age of four Mike suffered a medical setback from Viral Encephalitis that left him with a learning disability, challenges, and many struggles throughout his entire life. He attended Cache County Schools and graduated from Mt. Crest High School. He also worked very hard to get his commercial driver's license, a proud accomplishment he achieved on his own.
Mike and his brother Scott were raised in the rural area of Providence where they could run wild with bicycles, motorcycles, snowmobiles, bb guns and fishing poles. An old apple tree, just down the dirt road from his home, was the central meeting point for Mike and all his friends. More boards and nails were pounded in that tree than what would be used in a regular house.
Growing up in a competitive snowmobile family, Mike raced on a professional level for the Ski Doo factory team. In addition, he was part of Ski Doo's advertising media and participated in photo shoots with his family starting at a young age and continued to do so for several years. He was very competitive in everything he did. He was drawn to the outdoors spending many hours playing sports, boating, fishing, scouting, hunting, and off-road four-wheel adventures. The remote mountains and deserts were where he roamed the most. Everything Mike drove, rode or used soon needed to be fixed or replaced, he used everything to its limit and then a little bit more. He had a lot of friends that joined him on that same ragged edge level they called fun.
Mike worked in the family business as well as in the heating and air conditioning field. Despite Mike's learning disability he learned best by hands on and took pride in his work. He lived by the motto "work little, play hard.", but according to his most recent employer he was never late and never missed a day of work.
He married Brandi Surrage August 6, 2016, they were blessed with two children Hayden four years old and Hazel nine months old. Their marriage ended July of this year.
Mike is survived by his parents Mark B. and Gina Thompson of Wellsville Utah, brother Scott (Audrey) Thompson and their children, Brody, Emmie, and Wyatt of Paradise, Utah and Mike's two young children Hayden and Hazel. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Morland and Marie Thompson (Providence, Utah) and Marvin and Laura Johnson (Logan, Utah).
Mike suffered with severe depression. He fought a good fight but, in the end, he lost that battle. He will be remembered by many for his outgoing personality, infectious smile and his willingness to help others.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 26 at 12:00 PM at the Wellsville 6th Ward Chapel 48 W. 1450 S. Wellsville with a viewing held prior to the service at 10:30 am. An additional viewing will be held Sunday evening at Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 E. Center St. Logan from 6-8 pm.
