Mildred Ruth Johnson Friedli, 94, passed away on a still, calm Sunday night, August 28, 2016, at Rocky Mountain Care in Logan, Utah. She was born on a very cold and wintry Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. on February 20, 1922 in Nounan, Idaho to Joseph Johnson and Camilla Crossley Johnson. She was the second of five children. Her parents and siblings, Annetta, Hazel, Wallace, and Jay preceded her in death. She has two loving sisters-in-law who are still living, Muriel Johnson (Perry, Utah) and Shirley Johnson (Firth, Idaho).
Mildred attended Logan Senior High school and graduated in 1940. She married William A. Pilcher, who was 41 years her senior. They traveled around the country and to California where Mom was able to make a vinyl recording at a studio there. She had the most beautiful singing voice.
Mother worked behind the counter at Woolworths in Logan. She went to work at U and I Furniture and there she met Martin Emil Friedli. They fell in love, married, and raised four children together. Mom said she had the best children in the world. Indeed, Joe, Linda, Susie and Karla will all tell you she was right. Mom went to school at the Beau La Reine Beauty College in Logan, graduated and became a Cosmetology Instructor there.
Mildred came from good pioneer stock and could do anything. She worked hard growing up and learned how to take care of the things she had. She loved to sew, quilt, crochet, knit and made beautiful Swiss hardanger pieces. Mother was an excellent cook and homemaker.
Mildred is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, but her favorite was Relief Society President in the Logan 6th Ward. She moved to Smithfield, Utah after Mart passed away. She had a goal to reach the age of 100, but missed it by a few short years. Mother had an excellent wit, and everyone who met her loved her as much as her family. She leaves a lasting legacy to us all.
She is survived by her children, Joe Friedli (Patricia), Smithfield, Utah; Linda Bergsjo (Grant) Logan, Utah; Susie Kleinsmith, Wellsville; Karla Cleverley (Vernal) Fairview, Wyoming. She will be missed by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and family members.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2016 at noon at the Smithfield Third Ward Chapel, 640 North 200 East, Smithfield, Utah. Friends may visit Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, Utah and Friday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Condolences may be sent to the family at
