Mildred Jean Parrish Roecker, 91, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013.
Known as “Jean” or “Jeannie” to friends and family members, she was born May 9, 1922 in Bakersfield, CA to William R. and Beulah H. Black Parrish. She was raised primarily in Ventura and Ojai, California. On December 20, 1942 she married Frederick C. “Bud” Roecker Jr., a recent West Point graduate, in Ventura. Within two years of their marriage Bud was sent to Europe to fight in WWII. After the war he was stationed in Japan where Jean joined him, and gave birth to their only child, Frederick C. Roecker III. Her husband’s military career took them many places and they lived in West Point, NY, Cambridge, MA, Silver Spring, MD, and Ft. Ord, CA. They retired in Ventura at the conclusion of Bud’s military career.
Bud passed away in July 1996 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Jean continued to live in Ventura until 2006 when she moved to be near her son and daughter-in-law who lived in Connecticut at the time. When they were both retired they moved to Smithfield, UT, in 2010, and she relocated with them, moving into the Legacy House in Logan.
Jean loved animals. She was a skilled equestrian and won numerous ribbons and awards in competitions. She had many beloved cats and dogs as pets throughout her years.
Jean is survived by a brother, William Parrish of Fremont, CA and a sister, Beverly Worsham of Ventura, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her son and his wife, Susan, of Smithfield, UT and her grandchildren, F. Charles Roecker IV and his wife Katie, of Yuma, AZ, U.S. Army Captain Jacob Roecker and his wife Chrissy, currently stationed at Fort Gordon, GA, and David Roecker and his wife Lindsey, of North Logan, UT. Jean’s seven great-grandchildren are Eliza, Daniel, Rainey, and Michael Amelia, as well as Vincent, Margaret, and Amellia.
Jean’s family would like to thank all the wonderful people at the Legacy House of Logan who cared for Jean in so many ways during the time she lived there. Special thanks go also to the medical professionals, home health, and hospice providers who gave support and service to Jean and her family in the past months.
