Mona Loy Watterson Schenavar

Mona Loy Watterson Schenavar, 80, passed away on Nov. 30, 2014, at her home in Benson, Utah, four days after being diagnosed with cancer.
Mona was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Logan, Utah, to Joseph Lamoni and Kate Rees Watterson. She was the first of their seven children.
Mona attended Benson School, Smithfield Jr. High and North Cache High School. She graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1956 with her degree in Elementary Education.
Mona traveled to California for her first teaching job, where she met Kenneth Schenavar, a Marine stationed in the area. Mona and Ken were married and then later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.
Mona and Ken had four children: Sherri, Tina, Scott and Cindy.
Education was always important to Mona. She taught in California, Michigan and Utah. Most of her teaching years were spent in the Cache County School District. She taught at schools in Benson, Wellsville, Lewiston and Smithfield. She had devoted 40 years to education when she retired in 1999.
After retirement, Mona enjoyed more time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She put great effort into documenting family history and also sending out birthday cards to friends, relatives and neighbors. Her life always included service to others. She was well known for her gardening skills and always donated her harvest to others.
She held many church callings and especially enjoyed working in the library for the last eight years.
Mona was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her son, Scott, her parents, Mony and Kate Watterson, and her sister, Janet Neilson.
She is survived by her three daughters: Sherri Schenavar, Tina Schenavar (Kelly Powell), and Cindy (Mark) Wallace, and a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Wheeler Schenavar; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Florence (Bryce) Chamberlain, and Jean (Rallin) Andersen, and her brothers: Wayne (Tanya) Watterson, Jim (Barbara) Watterson, and John (LuDean) Watterson.
Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Allen Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 E. Center St., Logan. Viewings will be at the same location from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Smithfield Cemetery.
