LOGAN, UTAH: Morris Thorpe Smith 88, of Logan, died Tuesday the 8th of September 2009 In Salt Lake City Utah at the Intermountain Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Morris was born November 24th 1920 to Parley Kilfoyle Smith and Vida Brenchley Thorpe of Wellsville.
Morris spent his childhood surrounded by the fields and mountains of Wellsville that he loved. Morris was the sixth of eight children, five brothers and two sisters.
Morris was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife Naomi Quayle Smith, his sister Ardella Barney,and brothers Emerson Smith, Guy Smith, Don Smith, Grant Smith and Clyde Smith. He is survived by his sister Ivy Jean Kohler and Daughter Denise Reeder, and Sons Barry Quayle Smith and Deven Paul Smith as well as eleven grand children nine great grand children.
Morris attended South Cache High School where he participated in Band, After High School Dad followed his brothers into the Services during World War II Serving in the Army Corp of Engineers in Cairo Egypt for five years.
After Returning from Egypt after the end of the war Morris attended Utah State University taking courses in Plumbing and Painting.
It was at Utah State that he met his wife to be Naomi Quayle and they were married in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple December 15th 1950.
Morris was a member of the 19th LDS Ward in Logan Utah and served as ward chorister for several decades. Morris had a great love of music and shared his passion with the valley singing in the Imperial Glee Club for thirty years.
After graduating from U.S.U Dad went to work for Ross Willmore of Logan as a painter. He worked with Ross for twenty five years and then moved to Utah State University’s Physical Plant for anther eighteen years, before retiring.
Morris loved to golf and spent many a beautiful day on the greens at Sherwood hills in Wellsville canyon. He loved sports of all kinds and was an avid Utah State Aggie Fan and life long New York Yankee fan. He enjoyed attending sporting events and was an Usher at Utah State football and basketball games for several years.
Morris enjoyed people and he was beloved by many, he was know for his friendly demeanor and he was always willing to stop to talk or share a joke He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 14th at 1:00 pm in the Logan 19th Ward Chapel (1255 N 600 E) A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall-Mortuary( on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm and at the church on Monday from 12:00 - 12:45.
