Murray Leon Maughan

August 11, 1919 — December 12, 2008

LOGAN, UTAH: Murray L. Maughan ,89, was born August 11, 1919 in Hyrum, Utah. He died Friday, December 12, 2008 in Logan, Utah. He was the son of Robert and Marvel Petersen Maughan. He married Connie Maughan in Soda Springs, Idaho in 1940. This marriage was later solemnized in 1947 at the Logan L.D.S. temple. Connie died in 1993 and he married Rae Leishman in 2001 in Idaho Falls LDS Temple

Murray attended schools in Hyrum, Utah and graduated from South Cache High School in 1937. He graduated from Utah State Agriculture College in 1941 and completed his advanced degree in 1951. While attending college he participated in football and received all conference honors in all three years of participation.
After graduation he taught school and coached in Wyoming, Nevada and Utah. He taught and coached for five years at what is now Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.
He served as principal of schools in Kanab, Utah. Upon returning to Logan he taught in the Logan City Schools for over thirty years. His last four years of teaching he served as assistant principal at the Logan Junior High School.
Murray was active in the L.D.S. church and served in many callings including Bishop, High Council, Teacher and as a Temple Officiator. He served as a "VISTA" volunteer for thirteen months. He also served as a "Meals On Wheels" delivery service as a volunteer for several years.
Murray served in the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the Navy with the rank of Lt.(jg). He served in the Pacific area.
His survivors are, his wife Rae, his children, Michael and Carolyn Maughan , Orem, Eric and Beth Maughan, Pleasant View, Pam and Jeff Williams, Livermore, California and Carolyn and John Cooper, Las Vegas, Nev. His step-children, Clare Leishman, Douglas Leishman, Marsha Shelton and Lisa Sheppard. Also by fourteen Grandchildren and 41 Great Grandchildren . His sister Marie White of Bountiful. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Theodore, Farris, Ralph and a sister Marion M.Rust.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Logan City Cemetery with military honors. It was Murray's request that there be no public viewing and please NO flowers. Donations can be given to the Logan City Schools. Murray's family is very appreciative to the many people who cared for and assisted Murray during his stay at Sunshine Terrace.
