(Myrtle) Faye Hodges Taggart

August 15, 1918 — April 30, 2016

Faye Hodges Taggart, beloved wife, mother and friend peacefully departed this world at the Hospice Unit of Logan Regional Hospital, April 30, 2016.
Faye, born August 15, 1918 in Garden City, Utah, was one of two daughters of Morris and Myrtle Hodges.
She enjoyed the Bear Lake area both in Summer, and Winter. Her childhood, and youth were filled with fun and enjoyment regardless of the season. She said “The Lake” had a unique beauty. Its cold waters were magical and refreshing. For Faye, Bear Lake Winters provided a “ Winter wonderland” that to her, could not be found elsewhere.
At age 17, Faye graduated from Logan High School in the Class of 1936. Because she skipped a grade, Faye graduated a year ahead of her normal age group.
In 1937, Faye married her eternal companion and soul mate, DeVere Jerome Taggart in the Logan L. D. S. Temple.
12 months later, Faye and DeVere welcomed Dennis, their first of three sons. Richard, her second son, followed Dennis to the day, 4 years later. Todd, the last of Faye three sons, was born 6 years after Richard.
A goal important to Faye and DeVere, was in a way, over achieved. That goal was that their three boys earn, and receive college educations....”over achieved” because her three sons were exceptional performers in their respective professions. Dennis was an accomplished Doctor, specializing in Internal Medicine. Richard was a very successful Nevada Banker, and philanthropist. Todd was an award winning Regional Sales Manager with the Titleist Golf Company.
To help Dee achieve their goal of their boy’s college educations, in 1958, Faye went to work at Sommer’s Music and Appliance. Not long after, owner Ray Sommers, promoted Faye to Manager of the Music Store side of that business. For over 30 years, Faye remained a loyal employee of the Sommers’ family.
‘Faye Taggart’ was synonymous with hard work. Many mornings started at 3:30 AM, before “her men” arose. She could be found in her kitchen bottling vegetables, or canning fruit, or preparing their lunches.
Faye loved her flower garden. Spring was her favorite season of the year. She tended her garden with much love and passion. She took great pride in keeping it weedless, in the beauty of her roses, and taking care of her favorite flowers, her peonies.
Faye loved the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She fulfilled many callings in her home Seventh Ward of the Mount Logan Stake. She served in various Sunday School callings, and was in the Primary and Relief Society Presidencies. Faye is the most tenured member of the Seventh Ward as she has been a member there over 72 years. In her callings, she touched the lives of many members, especially children.
Faye was extremely dedicated. She was married to her eternal mate for 47 years before he died in 1984. For 32 years after his death, she remained unmarried. Faye’s response to why was always; “why remarry, I can not improve on perfection.”
Heart felt appreciation from Faye’s family goes to Dr. Mike Stones and wife Suzie. Attention to her physical and other needs went far beyond a doctor-patient, and friend relationship.
Faye was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Dee, sons Dennis and Richard, grand daughter Susan Taggart, daughter in law Jane, and her beloved twin ferrel cats, Punky and Snoopy.
Faye is survived by son Todd, daughter in laws Karen Taggart, Judy Taggart, 8 grand children and 23 great grand children.
