Our beloved mother Nola Jensen Dunford passed away on September 21, 2023 at the age of 84. Nola was born in Montpelier, Idaho and was raised in Garden City, Utah in beautiful Bear Lake. She was the youngest of two daughters born to Frank Lowell and Maurine Cook Jensen.
In her early years, Nola would spend time at her Uncle Cook’s ranch, picking raspberries to earn school clothes, going to dances to do the jive and jitterbug, and roller skating with her sister. She made friends easily and was very well liked in school being voted Miss Fielding High School her freshman year and Senior Gal. She graduated from Fielding High School in 1957.
On March 4th, 1957, Nola married her high-school sweetheart, Joseph William Dunford. Nola was very supportive through
many years of education and moving across different states for Joe’s career. They worked side by side during the early years of establishing a successful appraisal and real estate business. Together they had six children. They were later divorced, but still held a deep bond for each other throughout the years.
During her lifetime, in addition to the work she did with Joe, Nola worked at many places including the Logan Hospital, Cache Valley Dairy Association, and Deseret Industries. She was successful wherever she worked but her most important work was completed in her home where she taught the values of hard-work, love, and respecting others by being kind.
Nola’s greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She always pulled out her “Grandma Brag Book” and would show anyone who was willing to look through her pictures and listen about the love she had for her family. She would tell every grandkid they “tasted like strawberries” and her kids would never pass up a good back tickle from mom. You never left her house without a hug and her telling you she “loved you bunches”.
Nola was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faith and hope in Christ were a large part of her life. She served in many capacities in the church throughout her life including the scouting program, young women’s, Relief Society President, and served as a counselor in the Stake Relief Society presidency. She loved serving others and was particularly honored to serve an 18-month service mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse.
Nola was loved by many. Anyone she came in contact with was treated like a best friend. She would hold their hand and talk as if she had known them forever. She will be missed by many friends, nieces and nephews, and especially her family.
Nola is survived by her six children Ruth Blair (Forrest), Ron (Dana), Scott (Kelly), John (Heather), Jennifer Edwards (James), Leah Horman (Todd), twenty-seven grandchildren, and thirty-five great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Margene Jensen Tate and a sister-in-law Ann Marie Rogers Budge. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Lowell and Maurine Cook Jensen.
