Nolan Gurell Maughan, 54, of Wellsville, Utah, passed away on July 10, 2010, at Logan Regional Hospital as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Nolan was born on October 4, 1955, to Margaret and Seth P. Maughan, and raised in Wellsville, Utah. Nolan attended all of the Cache County schools. He received a welding scholarship at Sky View High School for developing a blue print for a farm sprayer. He played football at Sky View High School and went to the State competition in wrestling.
Nolan married Molly Arnold and they were blessed with three children, Jessica Joanne, Jamie, and Casey Nolan. They were later divorced, but remained friends. Nolan later met and married the love of his life, Patty Alexander, the mother of Lisa Marie, Lindsay Sue, and T.J., which made their family complete.
Nolan is survived by his wife, Patty, his mother, Margaret Maughan, and his children Jessica Joanne Brenchley (Jerrimy), Jamie and grandson, Jaxon, and Casey Nolan; brothers Colby, Randall (Kathy), Tracy (Jeanna), and Tom (Kimberly); his sisters, Debra Cudney (Quentin) and Dorcus Kleinschuster (Stephen), sister in law, Val Maughan (Gregory), and many nieces and nephews.
Nolan was preceded in death by his father, Seth P. Maughan, brothers Gregory and Kelly Maughan, and sister-in-law, Yvonne Maughan.
Nolan worked for the Utah Dept. of Transportation as an Operating Maintenance Coordinator and retired after 30 years of service at the age of 52. His crew disliked it when they came across a rattlesnake because he had great joy in picking it up and showing it to them, then finding it a new home. He was currently employed with Wellsville City.
Nolan loved all animals, especially his cats, dogs and horses. He had a special talent of successfully raising orphaned foals and continued to work with them when many others would have given up because of the effort in keeping these delicate animals alive. Nolan was an avid outdoorsman, and had a strong work ethic. He enjoyed working on his yard, as well as his mother’s, and kept both homes well maintained.
Also, Nolan was a lot like his Dad, in that if you wanted to build something well with the least amount of money, you talked to Nolan; he was a very resourceful person in that regard.
Nolan was highly regarded by his friends and family. He also had a special relationship with his children. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
