Norda Agnes Fife Emmett died at the home of her daughter, Mary Lundberg, March 3, 2015, of complications from cancer. Norda was born to William Shumway and Veara Southworth Fife in Brigham City, Utah, on May 10, 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband John William Emmett, two infant daughters, and infant grandson and granddaughter, and an infant great-grandson. She is survived by her brother Bill Fife. Norda met her husband, John, at Utah State Agricultural College, and they were married Aug. 20, 1948, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They have six children - Bill (Lorie) Emmett, Bob (Annie) Emmett, Chad (Marie) Emmett, Jake (Lesa) Emmmett, Mary (Jim) Lundberg, and Tom (Shelly) Emmett - 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Norda taught in the elementary grades in Logan, Salt Lake City, and Minneapolis while John was finishing medical school. She began raising a family and supporting John as they moved around the country while he finished his medical internship and served as a medical officer at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. Norda especially enjoyed those two years in New England. Norda remained busy raising five boys and a girl in Providence and later Logan. She loved family trips in the station wagon and later the motor home, traveling all over the United States. She loved gardening, bottling fruit and salsa, mowing the lawn, and clearing snow from the neighborhood sidewalks well into her 80s. She also enjoyed participating with John in his duties on the Logan School Board and the Capital Arts Alliance as well as associating with their good friends in the Study Group.Norda loved to serve. She enjoyed many callings in the LDS Church including her oft-remembered work with the Blazer (Trekker) scouts, each of whom she taught to tie a bowline knot correctly. She also used her knot-tying skills to quilt hundreds of quilts for family, friends and humanitarian needs. She and John served a mission in Waterbury, Connecticut. Her most compassionate service was for her mother, Veara, whom Norda cared for in her home for 15 years. Her greatest joy was when the family gathered each Christmas for the family Christmas nativity and sing along.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, at Allen-Hall Mortuary.
