Norma Louisa Ongsiaco Miller, age 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 at home in Hyrum, UT. She was born October 21, 1921 in Manila, Philippines to Juan Ongsiaco and Erma Estella Schaefer.
Norma grew up in Baltimore, Maryland with her mother and older brother Ray. She served in the Spanish-American Mission and after her return from her mission; she attended Brigham Young University, Provo, UT. She married Ernest “Junior” Miller on April 27, 1949 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.
Norma and Junior raised seven children, son Kris Miller (Bonnie), daughter Debra M. Hammond (Lynn), son Mark Miller (Deby), son Ernest A. Miller (deceased) (Teri), daughter Donna Summers (deceased) (Alan), daughter Jan Mijares (John), and son James Miller (Tifany).
Her faith, her husband, and her family were her three priorities in life. She was always a “Lady” and she awed all of us with her grace, dignity, and beauty, from housework to horse riding, delicious home cooked meals to fishing, from snowmobiling to golfing. Norma achieved her pilot’s license and accompanied Junior flying for business and pleasure. Norma was always by Junior’s side and they were seldom apart.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in various callings. Norma and Junior were able to serve two missions together. The first mission was in Africa, and the second mission, in London, England. She loved playing the piano and being with her partner and children. She was not only beautiful to look at she was beautiful of spirit, word, and deeds.
Norma is survived by her husband Ernest “Junior” Miller and five of her seven children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Erma Ongsiaco, brother Ray, son Ernest Miller, daughter Donna Summers, grandson Skylar Miller, son-in-law Jon Museus.
We are eternally grateful to call her wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her talents and service will be missed; she was a beautiful angel and she will be missed by all. She will live in our hearts forever.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, especially Dr. Michael Stones and Dr. Charles Graham, home staff-Berta, Gloria, Alex and Sylvia, Sunshine Terrace Hospice, Aqua Care Center, and Wound Care Center that assisted Norma for the past four years.
