SMITHFIELD, UTAH: On Tuesday April 2, 2013 Norma Olney Thompson peacefully passed away from this life surrounded by her loving family at the age of 86. She was born on December 4, 1926 to Wallace Lorin Olney and Mona Moore Olney. She was the oldest of 4 children, 2 sisters and 1 brother, Carma Peterson, Colleen Lawlor and Wallace (Wally) Olney.
Mom was raised in Smithfield, Utah and graduated from North Cache High School where she met and married her High School sweetheart Joe Thompson. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on May 29 1945, and was blessed with 7 children. She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years and her 6 children, Winnan (Norman) Thompson, Janet (Dennis) Kohler, Cheryl (Jan) Maughan, Rodney (Susan) Thompson, Robert (Kim) Thompson, Steven Thompson and one daughter in law Jackie Thompson. She was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 son, Kenneth Jay Thompson and 1 granddaughter, Jennifer Thompson Peterson.
Throughout the years she held many church positions and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She loved working side by side with Dad where they built apartments, a motel, and their new home. She was an example to her children and taught them the value of hard work. She enjoyed the many winters she and dad spent in California and St. George. They were blessed to spend this past winter in St.George.
For this is a joumey that we must all take, and each must go along. "It's all part of the master's plan- A step on the way home. (unknown)

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Smithfield 15th Ward Chapel, 625 East 600 South with Bishop Holland conducting. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, and on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11 :30 A.M. at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. As a family we would like to send our heartfelt thanks to CNA Hospice, especially Angie and Natasha and Dr. Salisbury for their loving care of Mom.
