Norma Loosle Wallentine
March 26, 1925 — March 9, 2014
Norma Loosle Wallentine, age 88, returned to her Father in Heaven Sunday, March 9, 2014, in Logan, Utah.
Norma was born March 26, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William James Loosle and Margaret Paton Loosle.
Norma graduated from Logan High School and afterwards served a mission in the Central States Mission, mainly in Minnesota. In later years, her stories of mission life as a young lady in the 1940’s fascinated her family.
On October 12, 1948, she was married in the Salt Lake Temple to Darwin H. Wallentine and together they had nine children. They lived in Lanark, ID, then Paris, ID and later divorced.
Norma worked at First Security Bank for many years, and later worked for Cache County School District as a payroll supervisor, always going above and beyond her duties. A loyal and hard worker, Norma enjoyed the satisfaction of a job well-done in all areas of life.
After raising a family, she served a mission in the Australia Melbourne Mission and then in the Salt Lake City Family History Center. Norma served in various church callings all her life, and especially enjoyed serving as a Relief Society teacher and temple worker.
She had many talents and was meticulous in all of them. She was an artist, quilter, genealogist, gardener, poet, calligrapher, storyteller and cake decorator. Norma was blessed with a love of learning and dedicated herself throughout her life to developing her talents and learning new ones. Rather than trudging through challenges that arose in life, Norma chose to create beauty through artistic expression.
She loved to cook, and she cared for her children all their lives by whipping up delicious meals and baked goodies from scratch. Her children and grandchildren often marveled at Norma’s ability to prepare a delicious meal from nothing at all.
Norma loved gardening and could often be found at dawn, happily tending to her garden, calling these hours “the best part of the day.”
Norma raised nine children by herself and will be honored by them as a hardworking, diligent mother who loved her family and remained steadfast and true in her testimony. Perseverance, but with a joyful attitude, is the legacy she leaves to her family. Positive and upbeat, she was always singing a tune, either under her breath or aloud for all to hear.
Her signature gift of joy—shown through her constant happy attitude, singing as she went about her day, and through her sense of humor—will never be forgotten. She will always be remembered by her family for her beautiful blue eyes, alight with a twinkle.
Norma loved playing games with her children and grandchildren, especially Skip-bo and Pollyanna; she paid exacting attention to the rules and she loved to win. Her grandchildren, especially, will enjoy carrying on the tradition of playing games by “Nana’s rules.”
Visited often by family, Norma would always encourage them not to leave late at night. One of her signature phrases was “Stay the night, and go home in the morning.” In her last hours, her family lovingly stayed with her throughout the night until she peacefully slipped away to Heaven at 4:40am—and went home in the morning. Her favorite time of day.
She is survived by her children Shron (Loren) Ipsen, Darla (Willis) Parmley, Peggy (Bim) Smith, Kathryn (Dennis) Corbridge, Todd (Conra) Wallentine, Heidi (Chris) Erickson, Scott Wallentine, John (Janice) Wallentine, 31 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters Margaret (Arnold) Dance and Bonnie (Elmer) Erickson.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Margaret Loosle, her daughter Lauri Ann, her daughter in-law Sandy (Godfrey) Wallentine, her siblings Doreen (Dean) Nelson, Betty (Glen) Hancey, Douglas (Marie) Loosle and Donald (Betty Jean) Loosle.
The family expresses their deep gratitude and appreciation to all those who touched Norma’s life with their kind care, the frequent visits and the many ways they attended to her comfort and brought joy to her days.
A viewing will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 from 6:00-8:00pm at Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North in North Logan. The funeral will be held at the Hyde Park 5th Ward chapel, 75 East Center Street, on Saturday, March 15 at 12:00pm, with a viewing beforehand from 10:30-11:30am.
