Norman Wilbur Pearce

Norman Wilbur Pearce passed away quietly at home in Paradise, Utah, May 1, 2007.

He was born March 20, 1920 in Ogden, UT to Ethel Lucy Jones and Richard Wilbur Pearce. He moved to Paradise at age 2 with his family where he spent the rest of his life. In his teen years he lived with Joseph and Zelda Howells and their daughters Maxine and Irene.

He married Shirley Perkes October 10, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Norman was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Paradise 2nd Ward. He held many positions including High Priest Group Leader, High Councilman, and Home Teacher.

He will be remembered for his dedicated community service. He served as mayor and was a member of the city council and the water board for many years.

He served in America Legion Post 47 for 51-years. He was selected as Commander and also served as District Commander. He was a member of the Lions Club where he also served as President.

During WWII he was an Army Tech Sergeant in the 96th Signal Battalion spending 2+ years in China and India Burma. He earned many service medals. Patriotism and service to fellowmen were two qualities he taught his children. For many years he posted the flags on service men’s graves in the Paradise Cemetery on Memorial Day. He took pride in carrying the flag in parades and participating in the American Legion Gravesite Tribute for many.

He worked as a Dairy Farmer and in construction as a Patrol Operator. He helped build Porcupine Dam, Willard Bay Dike and many freeway ramps and highways.

His brothers Charles and Carl preceded him in death as well as three brothers and a sister who died in early childhood.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, children Kathleen (Norris) Merrill, Marilyn (Mike) Hunsaker, Brent (Wendy) Pearce, Reid (Kathy) Pearce, Dennis Pearce, Bruce (Tami) Pearce, Diana (Ken) Johnson, 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sister-in law Loraine Pearce, sister Maxine Blotter and brother-in-law Asa White.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday May 5th at the Paradise 2nd Ward Chapel, 9060 S. 200 W. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 pm Friday evening at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah and 10:30 to 11:30 at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Paradise Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
