Hyrum, Utah: Norris Lavon "Hawn" Nielsen, 86 years old, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday September 17, 2014. He was born May 31, 1928 in Hyrum, Utah.
Hawn was educated in the Utah school system, joining the Navy at the young age of 17 and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1947.
He returned to Hyrum, Utah where he met and married the love of his life RaNae Steiner and to this union four children were born.
Hawn held several jobs including working at the depot in Ogden, Utah. Helping as a sheep herder and working at a local roofing company. In 1951 Hawn bought the Hyrum Billards, now known as Hawns, and has owned and operated it for the past 63 years just retiring early in 2014. Hawns is a landmark in Hyrum and well known throughout the valley.
Hawn loved to bowl, he also loved Aggie football, The Jazz was his favorite basketball team and he couldn't deny a good game of pool. Hawn loved to fish and during his precious time here, he took the trip of a lifetime traveling to Alaska where he caught one of the biggest salmon and halibut in the sea. Hawn was always more than willing to sponsor a baseball, soccer, bowing or any other sport that his grandchildren were involved in. You can find Hawn's logo on many baseball and bowling shirts throughout the valley. One thing we know Hawn will miss besides his family and friends, is his Sunday breakfast at Angie's in Logan, Utah.
Hawn is survived by his wife RaNae of Hyrum, his daughter, Becky of Logan, Utah, his sons, Randy (Jaynee) Nielsen of Hyrum, Utah and Troy (Stephanie) Nielsen of Millville, Utah. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Chassidy, Chisholm, Colter, Britany, Chelsea and Colbey, and seven great-grandchildren.

His beloved ShiTzu, Lexi, who Hawn loved to play fetch with. Lexi will sure miss those times.
Hawn was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Bryan, and his great-granddaughter, Kyleigh.
