O. Brent Greenhalgh 1941-2008
Orvill Brent Greenhalgh died February 10, 2008, peacefully at the age of 66, in the arms of his loving wife at his home in River Heights. Brent fought a valiant seven-year battle with cancer and was determined to beat it. He was adored and loved by the many people whose lives he touched. We will continue to look up to him and will always be grateful for his good example.
O. Brent Greenhalgh was born on October 23, 1941 in Wilford, Idaho, to Alma Wilburn Greenhalgh and Ethel Marguerite Hiatt; the 13th of 17 children. He was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work at an early age. He went to grade school in Wilford and graduated from South Fremont High in St. Anthony, ID, in 1960. He began his career as a mechanic at the age of 16 while working summers in Jackson Hole, WY. When Brent was in High School he took a farm management class where he skillfully rebuilt an old farm tractor for his dad. He married his high school sweetheart, Veda Lorene Mason on August 25, 1961 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they raised 9 children in their home in River Heights, UT.
During the 25 years that Brent worked for Axtell Chevrolet, he enjoyed attending many automotive trade and technical schools where he earned a number of certifications. In May of 1985, Brent opened his own successful business, Brent's Repair Service in Logan. Brent enjoyed his work and especially liked helping the elderly with their vehicles. He catered to all the temple workers who frequented his shop. He was known as a great mechanic and honest man throughout his career. He closed the shop and retired in January 2005.
Not only was Brent a skilled mechanic, but he had a natural talent as a general handy-man and could fix or construct just about anything. Among other major projects, he undertook the building of his family's home in River Heights to which he later added a deck. Brent was always precise and a true master craftsman.
Brent was an avid sportsman and spent many hours fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and back country riding on his A TV s. He especially enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren with him. He once said concerning his children and grandchildren, "They were my life." He was proud of each one of them and delighted in their accomplishments.
Another passion of Brent's was gardening. When he wasn't out on the river, or in the mountains, he was working in his beautiful garden. The straight rows and perfect mounds produced a large variety of vegetables and fruits, including fruit trees that were enjoyed by family and neighbors.
He served in many callings for the LDS Church such as Webelo and Scout Leader, YM Secretary, Sunday School President, Elders Quorum Councilor and President, Executive Secretary to the Bishop, Counselor, Bishop, and as an ordinance worker in the Logan Temple. He was a member of the ward choir for many years. He was a faithful home teacher and loved the families that he taught. He enjoyed giving service and put as much effort into his callings as he did to his work and sports activities.

Brent joined the national guard at age 18 and at 21 transferred to the army reserves for an additional 3 years. He served as Justice of the Peace for River Heights for 5 years and as City Councilman for River Heights for more than 8 years, also serving as Mayor Pro Tern for 3 mayors. Additionally, Brent was a member of the River Heights Lions club for 20 years and did much good in that organization, serving as president and in other leadership positions.
