Oliver Emil Wilson

April 10, 1936 — August 1, 2024

Payson, Utah

Oliver Emil (O.E.) Wilson passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024, with his beloved wife by his side. O.E. was born to Edward Thornton Wilson and Hulda Salina Berger on April 10, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up surrounded by loving parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. After high school, O.E. enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged after 4 years of active-duty service. O.E. then enrolled at Utah State University, graduating in 1965 as a proud Aggie. He met the beautiful and delightfully funny Patricia Jo Gallagher at USU. They married on August 26, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. O.E. and Patty Jo settled in Hyde Park, Utah, where they lived for more than five decades, raising their family and making life-long friends.

After USU, O.E. began his law enforcement career with the Utah Department of Corrections in Adult Probation and Parole as a parole officer. After a brief attempt at retirement from AP&P, O.E. returned to work as a Deputy for the Cache County Sheriff. He spent several years running the Cache County Jail inmate work crew before hanging up his badge for good in 2005.

Post retirement, O.E. and Pat went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Oklahoma City Mission, serving the people in Seminole, Oklahoma. They loved every minute of it. After their mission, O.E. and Pat faithfully served as temple workers in the Logan temple.

O.E. is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Val Edward and Jonathan Wilson. He is survived by his lovely wife of 59 years, Patricia Jo, and his children Kenneth (Janel) of Hyrum, Utah, Brent (Stefani) of Bountiful, Utah, Marilyn (Russell) of Spanish Fork, Utah, and 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren he dearly loved.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan located at 420 East 1800 North in North Logan. The funeral will be on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hyde Park First Ward building located at 480 North 100 West in Hyde Park, Utah, with a day of service viewing at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A grave dedication at the Hyde Park City Cemetery will follow immediately after the funeral.

We are grateful for family and friends who have provided love and support at this difficult time. We also are grateful for the caring staff at both The Gables in North Logan and Orchard View in Payson, who took good care of O.E. during his stay in their memory care units. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Whispering Canyons Foundation or The American West Heritage Center in O.E.’s memory. He would be equally thrilled if you enjoyed some ice cream, played fetch with a dog, or rode a horse in his honor.
