FRUIT HEIGHTS – Orval Cole Sorensen, 93, passed away peacefully Friday December 16, 2022 at the Villas at Baer Creek in Kaysville, Utah where he resided with his wife, Kathleen.
Orval was born May 2, 1929 in Logan, Utah to Charles and Lettie Sorensen. He attended Logan High School. Continuing his education, he earned Bachelor and Master degrees from Utah State Agricultural College in Physics.
He married Kathleen Kirby, from Hyde Park, Utah, 1951 in the Logan Temple. He served as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force until 1955 and later as an engineer for Sperry/Univac, for 30 years.
Orval had a wonderful tenor voice. He was one of two students that his voice teacher, Joseph Bistline, presented in recital. Years later he sang tenor in a quartet in the Bountiful Wards. His favorite hiking and fishing locations include the Wind River and Uintah Mountains. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Orval and Kathleen served in various family history capacities including a Service Mission in Salt Lake City. Together they compiled and authored over twenty volumes of the history of ancestors and of their own family and others.
Orval is survived by his wife, Kathleen; their five children, Reed (Callene) Sorensen, Layton, Utah, David (Lynda) Sorensen, Fruit Heights, Utah, Eldon (Deena) Sorensen, Eagle, Idaho, Ann (Ken) Plaizier, Layton, Utah, Linda (David) Jones, Honeyville, Utah; 18 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lettie Sorensen, and his brothers Dr. Charles C., Helen (Y.); Alton C., Wanda (J.), Leona (S.); George C., Donnell (U.); a great-grandson Noah Steed Pew; a grand daughter-in-law Megan Call Jones.
Funeral services will be held 28 December at 11:00a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Fruit Heights 4th Ward chapel at 24 South Country Lane, Fruit Heights, Utah 84037. A 10:00a.m. viewing will precede the funeral. Condolences may be sent via
