Palmer Delong

Palmer Bune DeLong, 92, of Orem, Utah passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in the Logan City Cemetery.
The oldest child of Joseph and Josephine Bune DeLong, Palmer was born March 16, 1918 in Ogden, Utah
Palmer attended schools in Box Elder County, enjoying academics, sports, and serving in many student body positions including Bear River High School Student Body President.
He received a Civil Engineering degree from Utah State University and remained a strong supporter of its College Of Engineering through donation and endorsement.
October 9, 1940, Palmer married Rhoda Larson. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. A son and a daughter completed the family in 1942 and 1947
Because of a love for water reclamation, he began a 38-year career with the United States Bureau of Reclamation. He directed the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of water development projects. His Bureau assignments included Area Engineer, Project Construction Engineer, Regional Planning Engineer, Project Manager and Assistant Regional Director. His most challenging assignment was Project Manager of the Central Utah Water Project.
Palmer was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many priesthood and auxiliary callings.
Palmer was an outstanding example in all his varied roles. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, priesthood leader, and member of the community.
Palmer was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brothers James and Alvin, and sisters Aileen and Joan. He is survived by son Robert of Orem, daughter Alice Cottle (Bill) of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren Danielle Smith (Ken), Christopher (Rochelle), Eric (Jaime), Bryan Cottle; and great-grandchildren Spencer, Mason, Brynn and Aubrey Smith, Peyton, Ella, Lily, and Oliver Cottle.
