Parley Gerald Bagley

September 7, 1927 — January 21, 2023

Parley Gerald Bagley passed away peacefully at Capitol Hill Senior Living in Salt Lake City Sunday, Jan. 21, 2023, at the age of 95.

Parley was born in Fairview, Wyoming on September 7, 1927. He was born the fifth child to Parley Eugene and Vera Crapo Bagley and preceded in death by both parents and all of his siblings, Dale, Joseph (Red), Ruby, Rene, and Cheryl. Parley grew up in Fairview, Wyoming located in his beloved Star Valley. There he learned to farm and nurtured an appreciation for all things outdoors. Camping, hunting, and fishing were a common activity that he carried throughout his life. It was through these experiences that Parley learned how to work hard, be frugal and build or make anything out of what was on hand.

In addition to learning how to work hard at a young age, Parley had natural artistic talent. His paintings and drawings have populated the homes of his family and friends for decades. Parley was an author of a published book of poems titled Close to Hymn. In addition to these talents, Parley taught himself how to play the guitar, fiddle, and harmonica. He even acted as an extra in a movie, The Far Horizons, staring Charlton Heston in 1955.

Parley was a cowboy at heart. He was drawn to vast open spaces as well as large mountain ranges owning multiple ranches in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. It was on those farms and ranches that he and his wife Pearl raised their two sons teaching them the value of hard work, perseverance and serving others. Nearing retirement years, Parley and Pearl sold the ranch and relocated to Logan, Utah to be closer to the Bagley family. Parley was a patriot who loved the United States and often spoke of its important place in history. Because of this sense of duty, he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict stationed overseas and returned honorably after fulfilling his service to his country.

While all of these adventures, ranches and service to his country in part defined Parley, how he would wish to be remembered is by his example of unwavering faith. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Parley served in numerous callings but talked most often of being a mission leader. Parley and Pearl were married for 50 years before her death in 2017. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Cardston, Alberta LDS Temple. Parley is survived by his two sons Gary (Briana) of Pocatello, Blaine (Aracely) of Salt Lake City along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn his loss are four granddaughters, three step grandchildren, six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on January 26th, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center St. Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location from 6 to 8 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, on January 25th and prior to the services from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Interment will take place in the Fairview, Wyoming, Cemetery.
