Paul Briggs Sanders

July 30, 1972 — April 18, 2018

Paul Briggs Sanders, 45, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at his home in Logan after a courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

He was born July 30, 1972 in Lovell, Wyoming. He was the third of six children born to Paul Lyman Sanders and Mary Ann Briggs. Paul married his eternal companion Jessica Lyn Gibson on September 20, 1994 in the Logan Temple. They are the parents of five beautiful daughters.

Paul graduated from Logan High School in 1990 where he excelled in academics and football and continued his education at Utah State University. He followed in his father’s footsteps and earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1999. He and Jessica then returned to their beloved Cache Valley where he practiced at Bridgerland Cache Animal Hospital for nearly 20 years, alongside his father, Dr Paul L. Sanders, and brother-in-law, Dr. Jason S. Gibson.

Paul served an LDS mission in Antofagasta, Chile from 1991-1993. He typified the scripture “..when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God”. He valiantly served where called and was serving in the Stake Presidency of the Logan Utah Cache West Stake at the time of his death. Paul had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ as our Savior and found great peace in the “good news” of the gospel. He was most looking forward to sharing in his daughter Alexis’ missionary service with her recent call to serve in Lima, Peru beginning this June.

Paul’s greatest joy was spending time with family & friends in the great outdoors. Camping, hiking, skiing, running, four-wheeling, canyoneering, and especially fly-fishing. He was an avid fly-fisherman and a masterpiece to watch. He taught all his girls how to cast a fly-rod and row a drift boat. He was a self-taught fly tier with much success over the years. Many precious memories were made on the river with a fly rod in hand.

He is survived by his wife, Jessica Lyn Gibson; five daughters, Alexis Ann Sanders, Olivia Lyn Sanders, Eliza Laine Sanders, Isabel Katheryn Sanders, and Sophia Marie Sanders; parents, Paul Lyman Sanders and Mary Ann Briggs Sanders, Logan; five siblings, Anna Marie Judd (Paul Pilkington) Ogden, Brenda Lemon (Todd) Logan, Tom Sanders (Amber) Highland, Richard Sanders (Rachael) Lilburn, GA, and Andrew Sanders (Jessica) Ketchikan, AK.

Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. A viewing will take place Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, at the Logan 16th Ward chapel, 600 North 125 West, beginning at 12:00 pm with a viewing prior from 10 to 11:30 am. Interment will take place in the Logan City Cemetery.
