Paul Gregory Wiser, 78, passed away on December 7, 2024 at St. Marks Hospital in Millcreek, Utah after an unexpected and very brief battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Burkitt Lymphoma. He was born on May 15, 1946 in Berkley California. Shortly after his birth, he moved to Eugene Oregon where he spent his childhood years.
Paul was raised by his mother, Esther LoPreste, in a single parent home with his two sisters, Kathy and Vivian. After he graduated from High School, he moved out of his home started working at the Tillamook Cheese factory in Neskowin Oregon.
Although Paul was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when he was 8 years old, he never was involved in church until he was in Neskowin. There he was assigned a home teacher who encouraged him to come to church. He started coming to church, and through the fellowship of his ward, he fully embraced the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He had a strong desire to serve a mission but could not afford one. His ward in Neskowin supported him while he served his mission in the Helsinki Finland mission. Paul had Finnish heritage and was proud of his Finnish heritage and was so happy to be serving the people of Finland.
After returning home from his mission, he attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah for a few semesters studying Auto Mechanics. He then transferred to the University of Utah for a semester because of his desire to be a music major, but realized that was not for him, so he got a job working for Deseret Cheese in Logan, UT, and decided not to pursue his education further.
While in Logan, he met Nancy Lind. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 10, 1976. After their marriage, they moved to Hamilton Montana, where Paul worked for the Ravali County Cheese company as a cheese maker. He worked there for 7 years. After having lots of bad luck, and going through several jobs in Logan Utah, Bozeman Montana and Everett Washington, he eventually found a job working at a jewelry store in Logan Utah. Unfortunately, that job did not work out either, but they were tired of moving, so Paul started working at EA Miller in Hyrum Utah. He worked there for several years in many positions. While there, he earned his CDL, and eventually got hired on working as a long-haul truck driver for LW Miller in Logan Utah. He worked for LW Miller for 10 years and then retired. Due to financial concerns, he ended up picking up a job for Presto Products in Lewiston Utah and worked there until his death.
Paul loved being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was passionate about his scripture study, missionary work and temple and family history work. In his later years, his life consisted of going to work, going to the temple to perform ordinances for his Finnish ancestors, and playing music. Paul started playing the viola at the age of 8 and continued to play the viola his entire life. He had a great love of classical music. At the time of his death, he was involved in a musical group through his apartment complex.
Paul was loved by his family. Although he and Nancy divorced in January of 2021, they continued to stay friends throughout the years. He is survived by his sister, Vivian Wiser of Salem Oregon, and his children, Zachary (Kinley) Wiser of Logan Utah, Cassandra (Doug) Wagstaff of Woods Cross Utah, Ashley (Chris) Pannell of Jacksonville Florida and Nathaniel (Kaylee) Wiser of Payette Idaho, and five (almost six) grandchildren, Chloe, Bethany, Gideon, Carson and Willow.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther LoPreste, his daughter, McKelle Wiser, and his sister, Kathy Akers.
