AVON, UTAH: Paulette Miles Mortensen passed away at home on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 following a long and courageous battle with a rare autoimmune disease. She was born on May 19, 1954 in Logan, Utah. Paulette graduated from Sky View high school where she played flute and percussion in the band before marrying her devoted and loving husband, Chris Mortensen, her partner of nearly 42 years. While raising their three young children, Paulette graduated from the Utah State University/Weber State University nursing program and became a Registered Nurse in 1983. She worked in Labor and Delivery and then in the Operating Room at Logan Regional Hospital for 15 years, later at Intermountain Home Care. She was adored by her patients and remains a legend in the Operating Room for her expertise and quick wit.
Despite her physical beauty, Paulette was a competitive tomboy who could keep up with and oftentimes outdo boys and men. She loved the outdoors, riding horses, water and snow skiing, and was a member of the Beaver Mountain Ski Patrol for 15 years. Paulette was affectionately referred to as “Pearl” by her co-patrollers. She had a sharp, witty sense of humor and was the life of the party. Paulette had a great eye for and pride in keeping a beautiful home and garden. She had great drive and determination to finish tasks and projects that she started. She loved to travel and visit new places and was always up for an adventure. She loved cooking, baking (she’s famous for her cherry pie) and entertaining her family and many friends who will miss her dearly.
Paulette is survived by her husband Chris, daughter Michelle (Johnny) Carlson, son Bryan (Emily) Mortensen, son Kevin (Lisa) Mortensen, her parents Donette and Al Southard and David and Carol Miles, mother-in-law Luana (Bob) Mortensen, her sisters Jeanne (Tony) Hutson, Deann (Gordon) Williams, grandchildren Lucia, Dylan, T.J., Josh, Savannah, Gabby, Tenaya and Ethan, and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Craig (Barb) and Jon (Debbie) Miles, father-in-law Bob Mortensen, and her dear friend Leann Munson.
