Pearl Baugh Rice, age 92, passed away on March 2, 2006
in Logan, Utah of natural causes. Pearl was born
September 2, 1913 to Francis Heber Baugh and Alice
Summerill Baugh in Logan, Utah. She was the
thirteenth of thirteen children. She married Mahlon
Franklin Rice on June 3, 1936 in the Logan Temple.
Pearl attended Logan elementary and High School and
was a graduate of Utah Agricultural College (Utah
State University) with a degree in elementary
education. She taught elementary school in several
schools in the Logan School District until her
retirement in 1978. She is fondly remembered by her
students and many maintained contact with her through
their adult lives.
The Baugh family was well known for their musical
talent and Pearl was no exception. She had a beautiful
singing voice and enjoyed performing with her family
members, especially her sisters Elizabeth and Phyllis.
They performed at many church and civic functions and
Pearl was never too busy to perform for any occasion.
Even after losing her singing voice to health problems
her love of music was always evident. She was an
active member of the LDS Church and held many
positions in Relief Society and other ward posts.
Pearl was a truly gentle, unassuming person, generous
to a fault and will be sorely missed by everyone that
knew her. She was a wonderful mother and friend.
Pearl is survived by her two children, Allan (Audrey)
of Salt Lake City, Utah and Alice Ann of Mesa,
Arizona, four grandchildren, Hanna, Noah, Cody and Ann
and two great-grandchildren Taylor and Caleb. She was
preceded in death by her husband Mahlon, grandson
Cliff and all twelve of her siblings.
The family would like to express their appreciation to
the staff of Terrace Grove and Sunshine Terrace for
their care of Pearl during the final years of her
life.
