Peggy Maughan Bankhead

June 13, 1956 — February 25, 2006

WELLSVILLE, UTAH: Peggy Maughan Bankhead ,49, beloved wife and devoted mother, passed from this earthly existence on Saturday, February 25, 2006 in a tragic accident. Peggy was born on June 13, 1956 in Wellsville Utah. She was the third child of Marshall Poppleton and Coralie Nielsen Maughan. She married David Giffen Bankhead on April 2nd, 1976. Peggy and David are the parents of four children, Christopher (Maryann) Bankhead of Lehi , Jessica (Rod) Buttars of Wellsville, Kirk Bankhead of Wellsville, and Misty Anne Bauer, also of Wellsville.

Peggy was a member of the LDS church, and attended Wellsville Elementary, South Cache Jr. High, and graduated from Sky View High School in 1974. She attended Utah State University, and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelors degree in PE and History. She later returned to USU and earned a degree in Elementary Education. Peggy has been teaching 4th grade at Wellsville Elementary for almost 21 years. Teaching was her passion and she touched many children's lives.

As a girl Peggy loved participating in sports, going horse riding, and being outdoors. She was on the Sky View swim team and ran track at Utah State. Peggy loved as an adult landscaping her beautiful yard, hiking, camping, and snowmobiling with her family and friends.

Peggy was a skilled seamstress and created beautiful needlepoint, crocheted, knitted, and quilted treasures which she gave generously to those around her. Peggy was also a talented artist and shared her talents willingly with all. She painted many beautiful pictures of the Wellsville Mountains, one of which is displayed in the City Council Chambers at the Wellsville City Offices. One of her most notable painting projects was the mural she painted in the media center at Wellsville Elementary. She was also a driving force in creating the outdoor classroom at Wellsville Elementary, spending countless hours of her own time planting and maintaining it.

Peggy touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Her children and two grandchildren, Tallin and Kayli were a great joy in her life, and she loved spending time with them.

Peggy is survived by her parents, her husband, her children, and her grandchildren as well as her two sisters, Cindy (John) Johnson, Rochester Washington; Maleesa (Jeff) Cooper, Wellsville; and three brothers, Mitchell (Molly) Maughan, Wellsville; Perry (Debbie) Maughan, Wellsville; and Zial Maughan, Salt Lake City. She was proceeded in death by her brother Nathan Maughan, and her mother and father in-law, Ruth and Vernon Bankhead.
